ICBA urging congressional outreach on spending package’s farm provisions

ICBA is calling on community bankers to contact their members of Congress and urge support for including a farm bill extension and farm aid package in a pending end-of-year funding bill.

Latest Developments: After House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) this week announced an agreement to include a $10 billion economic assistance package for farmers and one-year farm bill extension in the funding measure ahead of Friday’s deadline, lawmakers have discussed dropping the farm aid and other provisions from the continuing resolution, or CR.

Spending Concerns: Lawmakers and Department of Government Efficiency co-leader Elon Musk have raised concerns about the overall size of the spending package and non-agricultural provisions in the CR, leading to renewed negotiations over the measure.

ICBA View: ICBA called for Congress to include these measures in a public statement on Monday and applauded their inclusion in the initial agreement announced Tuesday.

Grassroots Outreach: With lawmakers now considering stripping out the farm bill extension, farm aid assistance, and other provisions until next year, ICBA is urging community bankers to contact Congress in support of including these provisions as lawmakers consider the matter.
