Citizens Bank of Edmond Celebrates 116 Years in the Community at Heard on Hurd with 28,000

Thousands Celebrate Local For Edmond Bank’s Birthday Party

EDMOND, Okla. (April 18, 2017) – Citizens Bank of Edmond celebrated 116 years in the community this month and Heard on Hurd drew more than 28,000 guests to enjoy the festivities. April is also Community Banking Month and Citizens Bank of Edmond is proud to showcase the importance of banking local as well as local eating, local shopping and supporting local music.

“Prior to the founding of the state, Citizens Bank of Edmond, then known as Citizens National Bank, opened its doors in 1901. Since then, Edmond and the community around the bank continued to grow and for 116 years, Citizens Bank of Edmond continues to serve the community with their financial needs and beyond,” said Heard on Hurd creator and President and CEO of Citizens Bank Jill Castilla. “Heard on Hurd is like family: our volunteers bring their spouses and kids to help with the event and stay to enjoy it afterwards, the vendors are small business owners that we’ve built relationships with, and the local bands are bringing the party to the streets. It’s a reunion that draws the whole community together!”

The Heard on Hurd music stage this month featured four live acts including elements of pop and blues rock with the Connor Hicks Band, alternative acoustic driven pop from the Lunar Laugh, the country grooves of Cutter Elliott and the “little girl with a big voice” Olivia Kay.

“After singing at several national events this past month, I was excited to be able to sing for my hometown crowd at Citizens Bank of Edmond’s Heard on Hurd event,” said Olivia Kay fresh off a performance at the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s women’s basketball championship game earlier this month.

The streets also featured local talent this month. Edmond’s Shaky Tuesdays, comprised of Edmond North and Memorial students, performed at Main and Broadway drawing crowds of high school student fans and parents to cheer them on.

“We got the band together to have fun and make good music. We never really expected the feedback we've gotten,” said Zach Short, the bass guitarist for the band. “We had a ton of fun performing on the street at Heard on Hurd and we're hoping to stay together and play more shows over the summer.”

Heard on Hurd attendees can also feel good about supporting community causes at the event. Throughout the season, 15 percent of alcohol and official Heard on Hurd merchandise purchases will go towards the Edmond Public Schools Foundation. Last season, attendees helped raise $9,000 towards that cause.

Food trucks and vendors alike enjoyed a successful evening with attendees.

“We’re grateful to Citizens Bank of Edmond and Heard on Hurd for bringing the community together,” said Jan Clem, manager of Klemm’s Smoke Haus. “We’re proud to serve such a happy, excited crowd; we sell at least 400 pounds of house cut loaded fries every month at the event!”

Heard on Hurd will return to the corner of Broadway and Hurd next month on May 20. The musical lineup and vendors for the May festival are still being finalized.
