ICBA Past Chairman William "Bill" Leo McQuillan died in Lakewood, Colo., on Dec. 4 at the age of 76. The former president and CEO of City National Bank in Greeley, Neb., served as Nebraska Independent Community Bankers chairman in 1988-1989 and ICBA chairman in 1998-1999.
McQuillan spent six years serving in the Army Reserve and graduated from Creighton University in 1973 with a business degree. After graduation, he worked at Omaha National Bank, in Broken Bow, Neb., and in Palisade, Colo., before moving back to Greeley and following in his father’s and grandfather’s footsteps. McQuillan led City National Bank until his retirement in 2012, earning numerous professional accolades.
McQuillan married Patricia “Patty” Caffrey in 1974, and together they had four children. He was also an avid fan of Nebraska Cornhusker football and Creighton Bluejay basketball.
McQuillan’s survivors include his wife, Patty; children Pat, Brian, Chris, and Kim; grandchildren Audrie, Jackson, Lizzie, Max, Keegan, Fallyn, Maura, Winnie, Cullen, and Dillon; sisters Karen and Kathy; brothers Mike and Tom; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will take place at a later date in Omaha for friends and family.
