Throughout his 28-year banking career, Nelson has continued to advocate on behalf of the industry. He has served as a volunteer leader for ICBA for many years, including serving on the board as chairman of the Policy Development Committee. He also served as chairman of BankIn Minnesota in 2023.

Before starting his banking career, he worked in public accounting as a CPA at Ernst and Young.

Nelson received a BA in Accounting from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn.
