2024 Summer Internship Diaries - Vol. 3

Last week was jam packed with exciting events and opportunities that we all enjoyed participating in. All of us interns have had time to develop skills within the workplace, and we have all delighted in taking on new projects within our departments. It has been exciting to grow as individuals through new and impactful opportunities presented to us, and we all have enjoyed working on our various projects we have been assigned.

Between Community Day on Tuesday and our intern outing to the baseball game on Thursday, we all feel as if we have benefited from the tight knit environment of ICBA. As we reflect on our first few weeks of our internship, we all can recognize all the support we have been given and we are all excited to step further into our positions and grow in our work, skills, and community in the future.

Intern Baseball Game 2024
Also, this week, we had the chance to attend a Nationals Baseball game at the suite. We all had so much fun watching the game together, and we all appreciated the time spent getting to know one another in a different setting. We also were able to attend with our managers, and everyone who attended had a great experience talking and watching the game together. It was an opportunity that we will remember very fondly when thinking back on our time at ICBA.

Conor Hyland, Accounting Intern

About Me:

I'm currently a rising senior at Georgetown University studying Finance and Accounting. I joined Georgetown Collegiate Investors in my freshman year, and just spent the past school year as the head of the Industrials sector. As my academic career continued, I became more interested in philosophy and politics, deciding to take on a Philosophy minor.

Last summer, I interned in Blackstone's Government Relations department, and although I had a great experience, I wanted to explore the professional world of business, which is why I sought out this accounting role here at ICBA. I can't wait to learn more about the inner workings of the accounting department and meeting with the officers of various departments as well.

Favorite part so far:

I found it very interesting when Rebeca Romero Rainey, at our senior lunch, mentioned the role ICBA played in exempting community banks from having to assist the bailout in the aftermath of the SVB banking collapse. It made our impact feel real when it was tied to such a prominent event in recent memory.
